When you’re planning a new space for your child, getting inspiration is half the fun! All that time spent pouring over magazines or browsing the internet for the latest colours, styles and products – finding your style inspiration is a fun ride. We all know what it’s like when you see that special piece and think “that’s exactly what I want in this room!”
Maybe you’re going for a boho vibe, or perhaps you want things pink and girly. Maybe playful whimsy would suit your child best. Today’s kids’ rooms are beautiful, but they also need to be practical (kids can be tough on the gear!). Comfort is also important, but the space needs to be flexible because children grow fast, and their tastes change too. There’s a lot to think about and someone who is all over it is Merische, founder and head creative director at Dreamy Spaces & Co.

Merische has a passion for kids’ interior design and her magazine Dreamy Spaces features the latest products and trends. After flicking through the magazine, it’s hard not to feel inspired! But Merische has real families in mind when she styles a space. “I created Dreamy Spaces & Co. a little over a year ago to inspire everyday mums on their interior design journey,” she said. “The magazine is all based around real rooms created by real mums.”

Dreamy Spaces & Co. is selective about the products featured in the magazine. Not only are they beautiful, they’re also high quality. “All products are made in Australia, making each room not only gorgeous, but very achievable when recreating,” said Merische. I truly love creating these photo shoots so the products can shine bright for everyone to fall in love with!” Merische has seen some of the most beautiful spaces created for kids and now she’s sharing her finds with us.
Here are Merische’s five favourite rooms so far from all the previous issues of her magazine:
1. Tropical Boho
Styled by Petria @coco_rose_interiors
This Bali-inspired design will have you dreaming of island living. It’s relaxed and tropical and shows what an impact you can make with a simple, natural style. “It’s a gorgeous, minimal style – the Boho vibes are fresh and inviting,” said Merische. “I think that Petria has created a unique style that’s so bold and yet so captivating.”

2. Nautical and Scandi

There’s nothing sweeter than an ocean theme for a little boy’s room and this space would have any young adventurer dreaming of a life at sea. “An inspired space for Nicola’s son to capture his love of all things sea life,” said Merische. “The space is filled with a mixture of texture and statement pieces, all carefully selected to capture his boyish spirit.”

3. Modern Boy’s Wonderland
Styled by Samantha @my3ratbagz3614
From the tiny, twinkling lights to the bunting across the ceiling, this space has an enchanted vibe. The grey, blue and white colour scheme works beautifully with the timber features – it’s subtle, but so effective. “I love how Sam has created this space into a boy’s wonderland,” said Merische. “She has truly captured a magical essence here.”

4. Vintage Elegance

An unashamedly feminine room, with its floral patterns and hints of lace (not to mention the divine shoe collection!). Little girls will love the rose and white colour scheme. “This room is absolutely stunning with the Minnie and Me Interiors wallpaper as its feature,” said Merische. “Nicola has created a space that completely stands out with its elegant vintage vibes!”

5. Modern Australian
Styled by Tegan @tegan_jean
Flynn’s room has a modern Australian feel with its eucalyptus prints on the sheets and wall decals. Merische said her favourite thing about Flynn’s room is the colour scheme. “Tegan has put together some very unlikely colours like green, mustard and navy blue and created the most unique nursery for her little man,” she said.

The new Christmas edition of Dreamy Spaces magazine is about to be released, but Merische is keeping tight-lipped about what we can expect to see. “Let’s just say that our team has created pure magic in this issue,” she said. From the sneak peek she is letting us share below, it's an edition not to be missed! Get your copy at www.dreamyspacesandco.com.
